Explore Africa’s ethos revolves around the three precious commodities of space, time, and stillness. We believe in cherishing the vastness of Africa’s landscapes, allowing travellers to immerse themselves in its endless natural beauty and find comfort in its tranquillity. Our approach to travel emphasises the importance of connecting with the rhythm of the wilderness, creating moments of stillness that inspire reflection and rejuvenation.
With Explore Africa, you’ll have the opportunity to slow down, savour each moment, and truly appreciate the beauty of the world around you.
With a focus on comfort, safety, and authenticity, we go above and beyond to ensure that each traveller’s experience is unforgettable. Whether embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime safari or seeking the perfect getaway, Explore Africa is here to turn your dreams into reality.
Ideally, we recommend booking your trip 3 to 4 months in advance for low-season travel and 9 to 12 months for shoulder/high-season travel. Many top lodges are in high demand during peak season, and exclusive luxury accommodations are limited, so booking early is advisable to avoid disappointment.
For bucket list safaris dependent on specific months, such as experiencing the seasonal flooding in the Okavango Delta, we recommend booking more than 12 months in advance.
It’s never too early to start planning your safari adventure. While last-minute trips are sometimes possible, especially if flights are available, securing flights first is recommended before booking safari arrangements. Our team is here to assist you in making your safari dreams a reality, whether you’re planning well in advance or looking for a last-minute getaway.
Approximately two days before your departure, you will receive a ‘Bon Voyage’ email containing all the essential phone numbers and contact details for your trip.
Additionally, our team will be available to ensure you receive superior service throughout your journey. From answering questions to addressing concerns, we are dedicated to ensuring your travel experience is seamless and memorable.

When planning your safari adventure, it’s crucial to consider the luggage restrictions imposed by the airlines, especially for inter-camp or intra-Africa flights. Most light aircraft used for these flights have a weight limit of 20 kg per person. Exceeding this limit can result in additional charges or even being denied boarding.
For more details on luggage restrictions, please read further here.
Packing for a safari requires careful consideration to ensure you’re prepared for the diverse conditions you may encounter.
Please read “What should I pack for a safari?” for more in-depth advice on safari packing.
A safari experience with children requires careful consideration of age restrictions imposed by lodges. Typically, lodges have minimum age requirements ranging from 8 to 12 years, with some extending up to 16 years.
Younger children may not be permitted to go on game drives due to safety concerns unless booked in a private vehicle. Selecting lodges tailored to children’s ages ensures a family-friendly experience.
Before embarking on your journey, ensuring you have the necessary documentation is crucial.
Here’s what you need to organise:
Passport:
A valid, machine-readable passport issued by your country of citizenship is essential for international travel, including for travellers under 18 years old. Ensure your passport remains valid for at least six months after your return date and has at least two consecutive blank pages for visas and entry stamps. Airlines and immigration officials may require this for boarding and processing.
Pro tip: Make physical and digital copies of your passport for emergencies.
Visas:
Most Commonwealth and European Union countries and the United States typically do not require visas for Southern Africa. However, you should check with your Explore Africa consultant or local embassy for specific requirements. For Zimbabwe or Zambia travel, consider the KAZA Univisa, which allows unlimited entry to both countries for 30 days.
Vaccination certificates:
Yellow Fever: Visitors to countries within the Yellow Fever Belt require a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate.
Read “Exploring Africa Safely: A Comprehensive Guide to Vaccinations” for more information.
COVID-19: Some countries may have COVID-19 entry and exit rules. You may need proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result. Keep updated with each African country’s entry requirements by contacting our team or visiting “Covid-19 and Travel” or Smart Traveller.
Ensuring these documents are organised beforehand will help streamline your travel experience and provide a smooth journey.
