About Explore Africa

Africa, by someone who’s actually been.

Explore Africa is a private atelier for the safari, composing journeys at the right camp, in the right month, with nothing left to chance.

We exist for a simple reason: too many safaris are sold from a brochure, not from the bush. No commission-driven rankings. No glossy half-truths. Only honest, hard-won counsel.

The difference between a good safari and an unforgettable one is rarely the price. It is the timing, the guiding, and the quiet decisions a brochure never mentions: which camp closes when the water rises, where children are truly welcome, which concession lets you follow that leopard off-road at dusk.

The team behind Explore Africa

Expert planning, personally considered

Explore Africa’s safari-planning team reviews the stays, guides and proposed routes you see here, then helps turn a traveller’s wishlist into a practical journey. Technology helps organise the detail; experienced travel judgement remains the editorial decision.

The approach is simple: we listen carefully, be honest about trade-offs, and help you ask the right questions before you commit to a trip.

About Valerie

The person behind Explore Africa

Explore Africa is Valerie’s own business, based in Australia. Tell her what you have in mind and she will help you plan a safari that suits you, with honest advice on the trade-offs. The trip planner is free to use, and a partner label never changes the order of results.

How we check what we publish

Checked, and dated
Every stay page shows the month its details were last checked. Rates and availability are confirmed when you enquire.
Our own words
Stay descriptions are written by us, and property photographs carry a visible source credit.
No paid rankings
A partner label is the only commercial signal on the site, and it never changes the order of results.
Routes that work
Distances, transfers and nights are worked out from real map data, so a suggested route can actually be travelled.
"The only man I envy is the man who has not yet been to Africa, for he has so much to look forward to." (Richard Mullin)

Honesty over hype

Every verdict is ours, unbiased. A ‘partner’ badge is the only commercial signal you’ll ever see, and it never moves a ranking.

The right month

We map African seasons to Australian school holidays, so your journey lands when wildlife and weather are at their finest.

Feasible, not fantasy

Real distances, transfers and flight times. A beautiful plan that cannot actually be flown is no plan at all.
