Fugitives' Drift takes its name from the river crossing where survivors of Isandlwana escaped into Natal. Lieutenants Melvill and Coghill died near here trying to save the Queen's colours of their regiment and were awarded the first posthumous Victoria Crosses. A guided walk on the lodge's own reserve visits their graves and explains what happened at the drift. It is included in the lodge's standard rate.
