An Explore Africa journey

Namibia Self-Drive: Dunes, Coast & Etosha

Ref EA2026013·Indicative from A$8,000 per person·9 nights

When to go

May to October is cool and dry, and the best time for game at Etosha's waterholes. November to April is hotter, with summer storms in the north.

Country information

Namibia is wide open and made for a road trip: red dunes at Sossusvlei, the cool Atlantic coast at Swakopmund, the desert-adapted wildlife of Damaraland and the waterholes of Etosha. What to know from the start: • Entry requirements: confirm passports, visas, digital entry forms and transit rules at smartraveller.gov.au and Namibia's official immigration website before travel. • Health: seek route-specific advice from a travel-health professional and smartraveller.gov.au; vaccination and malaria guidance varies by itinerary. • Currency: Namibian Dollar (NAD), pegged to the South African Rand, which is also accepted. • Getting around: self-drive on long gravel roads; a 4x4 or high-clearance vehicle and unhurried days are best.
