An Explore Africa journey

The Great Migration Calving Season

Ref EA2026016·Indicative from A$10,000 per person·8 nights

When to go

January to March, with February usually the strongest month, when the herds gather on the short-grass plains of the southern Serengeti to give birth.

Country information

Tanzania is home to the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire's elephant country, with the white sand of Zanzibar a short flight away. What to know from the start: • Entry requirements: confirm passports, visas, digital entry forms and transit rules at smartraveller.gov.au and each destination's official immigration website before travel. • Health: seek route-specific advice from a travel-health professional and smartraveller.gov.au; vaccination and malaria guidance varies by itinerary. • Currency: Tanzanian Shilling (TZS); US dollars are widely used on safari. • Getting around: road safaris on the northern circuit and light-aircraft hops, which usually cap soft luggage at about 15 to 20kg.
