An Explore Africa journey

Uganda: Gorillas & Chimps

Ref EA2026015·Indicative from A$9,500 per person·6 nights

When to go

June to September and December to February are the drier months for trekking. Permits are cheaper in the quieter months of April, May and November, when it is wetter.

Country information

Uganda is the Pearl of Africa: mountain gorillas in Bwindi, chimpanzees, tree-climbing lions in Queen Elizabeth National Park and the source of the Nile. What to know from the start: • Entry requirements: confirm passports, visas, digital entry forms and transit rules at smartraveller.gov.au and Uganda's official immigration website before travel. • Health: seek route-specific advice from a travel-health professional and smartraveller.gov.au; vaccination and malaria guidance varies by itinerary. • Currency: Ugandan Shilling (UGX); US dollars are widely used for tourism. • Gorilla and chimp permits: issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority through licensed tour operators, and best secured well ahead.
