Overview
Greystoke Mahale sits between a white-sand beach on Lake Tanganyika and the forested Mahale Mountains. Open-fronted bandas built with reclaimed dhow timber look towards the water, with en-suite bathrooms and upstairs lounging spaces. The main draw is tracking wild chimpanzees on foot, balanced by kayaking, dhow outings and time at the camp bar. Arrival is part of the experience: a flight to Mahale airstrip followed by a boat journey along the lakeshore. It suits travellers who want a remote forest-and-lake stay rather than a vehicle-based safari, and who are comfortable with demanding walks.
“We love the contrast between chimpanzee treks and quiet time on Lake Tanganyika. Greystoke suits active travellers who want wildlife encounters on foot and a small, open-fronted lodge far from safari traffic.”
